Gum Disease doubles stroke risk according to new study

Gum disease is one of the most common health conditions across the UK, with approximately 45% of people affected according to the British Society of Periodontology.

But in a new study by Fagundes et al, "Periodontitis As A Risk Factor For Stroke: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis" published in 2019, has found that people with gum disease are more than twice as likely as those without to have a stroke.

There are also links to other issues such as heart disease, diabetes and strokes.

Brush Fresh, run by dentists based in Bristol here in the UK are therefore encouraging everyone to review their dental practices. Maintaining a great oral health practice reduces the chances of gum disease as well as other complications.

Gum disease is most often caused by plaque on the teeth and presents itself by bleeding gums. More common as you grow older, if you have bleeding gums the first thing we recommend is to visit your dental practice and speak to your dentist. They will give you a thorough check-up to see where the problem may be, and to offer solutions to resolve it.

Having the best "tools" is also essential when maintaining your teeth and gums, and that's why here at Brush Fresh we always recommend our very own Brush Fresh Toothpaste Tablets and Brush Fresh Bamboo Toothbrushes. We've designed these products using the very best ingredients for your teeth, and our brushes are ergonomically designed to give you the very best in teeth cleaning.
