So, you've been rinsing with water or mouthwash after you brush your teeth. Then someone tells you "oh no, you shouldn't rinse after you brush, my dentist told me so". But you've been doing the same thing your whole life... why change now?
Firstly The Facts
All dentists are taught that rinsing after brushing isn't what you're supposed to do. This is because all the good stuff in your toothpaste will 'cling' onto the teeth and have much more time to work its magic.
The Good Stuff?
The good stuff is fluoride. This amazing mineral 'resurfaces' your teeth and strengthens it. This provides added protection against decay, sensitivity, and bacterial growth.
Can I Use Mouthwash After Brushing?
Ideally, use mouthwash before brushing, 30 minutes after brushing, or at a different time altogether. Mouthwash has fluoride in it too, but the fluoride in toothpaste is more effective.
There Is An Exception
If you aren't using a fluoride toothpaste (which we don't recommend), then rinsing after brushing won't make a difference.
